26 vs. 29er? Why 29er?

Proponents of 29ers swear that they are the wave of the future, while others point out disadvantages of 29ers and stand by their 26 inch mountain bikes. We feel strongly that well designed and developed 29er bicycles are as important in Africa conditions (Absa Cape Epic) as a tubeless conversion.

Advantages of 29er Mountain Bikes
 Larger wheels absorb bumps and obstacles better, providing a smoother ride and more stability going over obstacles. This will especially be an advantage if you prefer a hardtail over a full suspension because you can have the quicker response time that the hardtail provides while still enjoying the smoother ride.
 29er mountain bikes are more stable and less likely to waver from your riding line.
 With larger wheels, you are able to ride at higher overall speeds, have increased momentum, and feel more stable at higher speeds.
 Riders of 29ers claim that they are less likely to sink in sand or mud.
 Larger wheels provide better traction because of their larger contact area with the ground (because they have less of an arc than smaller wheels). You can also ride with less air pressure in the larger tyres without the risk of getting a pinch flat, which also helps grip the trail better.
 Longer contact area of tyre helps with cornering at higher speeds.
 29" bikes tend to offer taller riders a more "natural" frame geometry
 While climbing steep hills, the front wheel is less likely to lift, which provides better traction.

Many of the disadvantages of the 29er bicycles have been addressed by the some brands that have completely redesigned and developed 29er bicycles and therefore are not necessarily true for all 29er brands.
Potential Disadvantages of 29er Mountain Bikes

 The larger wheels are harder to get moving than their smaller counterparts; therefore 29ers accelerate more slowly. However, there are very small weight differences currently between 26 and 29ï¿½ wheels.
 29 inch mountain bikes need more braking power to slow down.
 Theoretically, the wheels are not as strong as smaller wheels, so aren't able to take as much thrashing as the 26 inch wheels.
 The bigger 29er fork will take more stresses; therefore a trough axel and tapered steer add stability
 The larger wheels require more force when climbing uphill, so they may not be as fast for climbing as the 26ers.
 It is tougher to do wheelies on a 29er.
 There is a more limited selection of tyres, rims, forks, and frames simply because 29ers have not been around as long as 26ers.
 With some brands, when traveling at slow speeds, tight handling and steering response time is decreased. The ï¿½goodï¿½ 29er brands have shortened the wheelbase; this makes the 29er as agile as a 26er.
 With some brands, issues with fit have been reported, such as toe overlap and high stand over height, especially with smaller riders. The ï¿½goodï¿½ 29er brands have dropped the BB to the same height as the 26er

Most of these claims have yet to be objectively investigated. Small scale, unpublished studies exist but both proponents and detractors of 29" wheels are generally unimpressed with their scientific rigor.

The best advice is to ride a good demo model that has the same spec as your 26er and make up your own mind. It must be stressed that you will get a substantial different ride from brands that completely redeveloped the 29er bicycle and not just added 29er wheels to a 26er frame.

Jose Antinio Hermida va 22 en Overall en el Cape Epic... Ufff y eso a el no le gusta... Usara o no usara, la 29er en el World Cup?

Por otro lado a sus compaï¿½eros de Team les va muy bien en 2do lugar overall y ayer quedaron en 1er lugar
