Club Contra El Viento, The Puerto Rican Mountain Bike Commission and Puerto Rican Cycling Federation have included The Medalla Light Ultimate Dirt Challenge as CLASS ONE Cross Country race on the Union Cyclist International (UCI) calendar. This Classification makes the race one of the most important in America. There are only four class 1 races in the Continent. We are expecting a lot of racers and news reporters from Central and South America. The date of the race, March 29, is attractive to racers from the USA it gives them the chance to shake off the cold weather.

The race course in Rincon has been chosen to be the official for the Central-American Caribbean Games Mayaguez 2010.

Last yearï¿½s event attracted more than three hundred (300) riders and more than 2,500 spectators from around the island. This yearï¿½s event will attract more racers with twice the crowd who want to see the cross country race, down-hill race and enjoy music. The racers will collect points in the UCI rankings.

All ready confirmed are the presence of cyclists from US, Costa Rica , Chile, Dominican Republic, Canada, Brazil, Mexico.

Also to pump up the crowd and entertaining the assistance we are programming The Medalla Light Mountain Bike Down Hill Race. Down Hill racing itï¿½s the Formula One of mountain bike; riders have to navigate extremely difficult terrain as fast as possible. Itï¿½s a race against the clock with multiple factors like big jumps, stairs, gaps and drops from different angles. Itï¿½s a spectacular event that the people of Rincon will hallucinate with.

Some of the riders are bringing with them film and photo crews from different publications.

The town of Rincon is located on the west side of the island, about a two-hour drive from the San Juan Metro area. The beaches of Rincon are famous surfing spots and the people like to welcome people from other countries. The Medalla Light Ultimate Dirt Challenge will take place right in front of the Rincon Light House, a beautiful place full of spectaculars views.

The Medalla Light Ultimate Dirt Challenge- Sunday, March 29, 2009

Location: Rincon, Puerto Rico *Flights into San Juan, PR

BMX Dual Slalom Trails Racing: 18 & Over Open BMXR Classification- PRO PURSE: $5,000
Mtn. Bike Cross Country: 12- UCI Pointed Classifications
Mtn. Bike Downhill: 4- Individual Classifications

BMX Trails Racing consists of a 2 rider format utilizing a 12-15 foot roll-in with a traditional starting gate connected to the 2-man timing system, dropping onto a shortened, more extreme version of a race track with the 2 riders going head to head on opposite tracks. Qualifying will involve each rider racing one side of the 2 man track, one time. The first heats will be seeded according to the rider lap times. The top 32 fastest times transfer to the next round. Qualifying includes one on one competition transferring from the Round of 32, 16, 8, & 4. The top 2 fastest times from the round of 4 goes to the finals. The remaining 2 riders from the round of 4 will race for 3rd place overall. The final two riders will be racing head to head to determine the winner.

El mejor equipo de MTB de la isla, ganando el Campeonato Nacional de Relevos por Equipos 2007-08-09, repitiendo triunfos los ï¿½ltimos cuatro aï¿½os en el evento 24 horas de Florida categorï¿½a Equipos, dos aï¿½os consecutivos ganando el 24 horas de Florida categorï¿½a Solo, ganamos el ï¿½Survivor 2007ï¿½ con el mayor margen de ventaja en la historia del evento, colocamos dos equipos en la primeras cinco posiciones del ï¿½Survivor 2008ï¿½ y logrando primeras posiciones en todas las carreras del calendario de la Comisiï¿½n de MTB de PR.
En los pasados ocho aï¿½os hemos trabajado arduamente para traer a Puerto Rico por primera vez campeones mundiales y corredores atletas de renombre internacional.

Estube ayer hablando con John Purse que es el que esta a cargo de eso y es solo BMX pero se esta hablando de hacerlo OPEN WHEELS que es OPEN WHEELS? eso es que pueden correr BMX de 20" y 24"... ayer empezaron la pista y va quedando muy bn!!! asi ke alli estaremos!!! Twisted Evil
